(Can be combined with Community Based Victim Services position for 33.5 hours/week)

Job Title:  Sexual Assault Services (SAS)- Coordinator 15 hours/week

Wage: $37.76

Job Summary:

Develop and implement a unique ‘made in Kaslo’ coordinated rural response through a formalized partnership protocol with RCMP, Health and community services to reduce the potential for system induced trauma. To make this response available to other rural communities to implement or adapt based on their needs. Organize or facilitate training to rural service providers to create a shared understanding of the unique risks rural residents face when disclosing incidents of sexualized violence

Reports To: KCS Co Executive Director-Counselling and Early Years.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Community Coordinator will work together with the Community Based Victim Service program to:

  • to improve survivors experience when coming forward with disclosure of sexualized violence.
  • to develop, implement, coordinate and maintain a trauma informed response to survivors of sexualized violence to ensure survivors receive the best possible response from service providers
  • to develop and implement a unique ‘made in Kaslo’ coordinated rural response through a formalized partnership protocol with RCMP, Health and community services to reduce the potential for system induced trauma.
  • To make this response available to other rural communities to implement or adapt based on their needs
  • To create a shared understanding of the unique risks rural residents face when disclosing incidents of sexualized violence through training and partnership meetings.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • University degree in a related field or equivalent in training and experience.
  • Professional development (ongoing) in victim services and crisis intervention
  • Experience working in areas of intimate violence, abuse, sexual assault and especially working with victims and the legal and medical systems

Skill requirements

  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Able to work within a collaborative framework, participating in a team approach with other professionals, agency staff and members of the community.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have a valid First Aid Certificate (training provided if needed)

Additional Information:

This position is required to work in the office of Kaslo Community Services. The coordinator may work outside the office, e.g., in community settings to further the goals of the position.

Job Title:  Sexual Assault Services – Community Coordinator Response

To make this response available to other rural communities to implement or adapt based on their needs.

Organize or facilitate training to rural service providers to create a shared understanding of the unique risks rural residents face when disclosing incidents of sexualized violence

Services will be provided within the following geographical area: to clients in the policing jurisdiction(s) of the: Kaslo RCMP Detachment

Services will be provided regardless of whether or not the client has chosen to report to the police.

• In some cases, clients may request service from outside the service area and the community coordinator may provide services in these cases with prior approval from the Executive Director.

The Community Coordinator is an employee of Kaslo Community Services(KCS).  The Community Coordinator will work with the Executive Director and other program staff to plan and deliver the program.  All staff will adhere to policies developed by the KCS Board and guidelines developed by the Executive Director. 

Reports To: KCS Co Executive Director-Counselling and Early Years.

  • to develop, implement, coordinate and maintain a trauma informed response to survivors of sexualized violence to ensure survivors receive the best possible response from service providers
  • to develop and implement a unique ‘made in Kaslo’ coordinated rural response through a formalized partnership protocol with RCMP, Health and community services to reduce the potential for system induced trauma.
  • To make this response available to other rural communities to implement or adapt based on their needs
  • To create a shared understanding of the unique risks rural residents face when disclosing incidents of sexualized violence through training and partnership meetings.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. From a Survivor led approach, facilitate a coordinated response amongst local and regional (if needed) service providers to disclosures of sexual assault within 72 hours of the sexual assault and ensure ongoing collaboration as needed
  2. provide transportation to or attend emergency health services call – outs
  3. offer trauma informed information for all service providers to enhance their response to Survivors
  4. provide ongoing emotional support and safety planning for Survivors. This may include liaising with survivors and their identified personal supports, emergency personnel, hospital personnel
  5. will coordinate and may refer to SKY Coordinated Response (Child and Youth Advocacy Centre) and/or Sexual Assault Intervention Program (SAIP)
  6. using a Trauma-Informed, survivor centred and, as needed, culturally appropriate approach, support the emotional and practical needs of survivors, and identified members of their family or support network
  7. support Survivors in accessing other resources and assistance providing information and assistance in navigating health and justice and provide targeted referrals to appropriate services such as: victim services, Victim Link, Victim Safety Unit, Crime Victim Assistance program, Stopping the Violence Counselling, PEACE counselling, Adult Mental Health, Child/youth Mental health, Sexual Assault Intervention program, SKY(Safe Kids and Youth) coordinated response(rural model child and youth advocacy centre).
  8. Organize and implement a Third-Party Reporting protocol/MOU with Kaslo RCMP detachment.
  9. Once Third-Party Reporting established, provide information to survivors regarding this option and assist survivors in completing the reports.
  10. Provide outreach and community information on topics related to the impacts of sexualized violence
  11. Develop, implement and maintain a service pathway for rural survivors choosing to disclose their experience of sexual assault to health and/or justice systems.
  12. To improve survivors experience when coming forward with disclosure of sexualized violence.
  13. Enhance the existing CBVS program and STV women’s counselling  to develop, implement, coordinate and maintain a trauma informed response to survivors of sexualized violence to ensure survivors receive the best possible response from service providers. Survivors will report and increase in confidence in the health and criminal system’s response to their disclosure
  14. With the ED, evaluate the effectiveness of the Sexual Assault Service (SAS), resolve identified problems and move towards defined objectives.
  15. Maintain accurate reports and records on clients and provide monthly statistical information as required.    Ensure that all required documentation is complete.  
  16. Ensure confidentiality of all client-related and privileged agency information.
  17. Perform other related duties as required.

  • If clients are to be transported by the counsellor, then a sound vehicle,  and clear drivers abstract are required.

Additional Information:

This position is required to work in the office of Kaslo Community Services. The counsellor may work outside the office, e.g., in community settings to further the goals of the position and is expected to take an active role in providing opportunities for support and education surrounding Survivor’s issues. 

Hours, Remuneration and Benefits:
15 hours per week

Wage: $37.76 per hour.
