Family & Early Years Programs
The Family Centres are home to several programs for parents and children: Parent support groups, parent education and family drop-in programs, guest speakers, and a book lending library.
Parent and Child Time, Parent Support groups and Nobody’s Perfect courses are just some of the programs we offer from our Family Centres in Kaslo and in Meadow Creek.
The Family Centres at J. V. Humphries School in Kaslo and Jewett Elementary School in Meadow Creek are home to a wide variety of programs.
Family Centre programs are free of charge and usually closed for the same holidays as school holidays and run from September to June.
Strong Start Parent and Child Time (SSPACT)
The Community Action Program for Children (CAP-C) in partnership with School District #8 and the Ministry for Child and Family Development offers a regular parent and child drop-in for families with children under age six, which features early learning activities, arts and crafts, gym time, snack, storytelling and and parent-child circle time.

Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program
This six-week support group for parents of young children increases parents’ knowledge of children’s health, safety and behaviour. The program helps to build ongoing support networks among parents in the community. Childcare and healthy snacks are provided.

Growing With Baby Program
This program provides support, information, referrals and resources to expecting parents and parents with babies up to 6 months. Free vitamins and food vouchers are available to mothers living on low income. Growing With Baby offers guest speakers, infant feeding support and group activities. The Kaslo program offers childcare and lunch.

Talking Circle for Parents
This program is open to all parents of children up to 6 years. Find support and belonging as you navigate the ups and downs of parenthood. Traditional talking circle begins with a cleansing (“smudging”) ceremony with sage and we share the time by using a talking stick. Childcare and snacks are provided. Babies under 1 year stay with their parents. Talking Circle is a drop-in program so parents can attend any day that works for them without the need to register. Please aim to arrive at the beginning of the session.

The Kaslo Family Centre has an excellent selection of books for parents.
Guest Speaker Series
Two hour presentations for parents on topics relating to child development and family health and well-being. Topics and speakers are chosen in consultation with parents. Childcare and snacks are provided. Registration is required.
