Job Summary:
The SAS Counsellor is an employee of Kaslo Community Services (KCS) and will provide counselling services to survivors of sexualized violence of all genders. The SAS Counsellor will work with the Co- Executive Director and other counselling program staff to plan and deliver the program.
Reports To: KCS Co Executive Director-Counselling and Early Years.
Services will be provided to Kaslo and area residents who are nineteen (19) years and older.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- will assess the survivor’s needs and develop and implement short-term counselling plans in collaboration with the survivor.
- will provide counselling services to survivors of all genders: women, men, trans, nonbinary, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people who have experienced sexualized violence.
- provide up to 12 sessions of one hour of individual clinical counselling for each survivor. More sessions may be provided on a case-by-case basis.
- provide group counselling or workshops for survivors of sexualized violence.
- provide resources and referrals necessary to meet survivor needs, including, as considered appropriate by the Service Provider and in agreement with the survivor, with respect to Indigenous cultural and healing practices
- With the Executive Director, evaluates the effectiveness of the Sexual Assault Services, resolves identified problems and moves towards defined objectives.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
- Master’s degree in social work, counselling psychology or equivalent is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience may be accepted. Registration with a professional regulatory body such as BCACC, CCPA or equivalent preferred.
- Professional development (on-going) and work experience related to sexualized violence.
- Extensive work-related experience (1-3 years) under qualified supervision and participation in related continuing education programs.
- Demonstrated therapeutic group facilitation skills
Skill requirements
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Able to work within a collaborative framework, participating in a team approach with other professionals, agency staff and members of the community.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Must have a valid First Aid Certificate (training provided if needed)
- If clients are to be transported by the counsellor, then a vehicle inspection, and clear drivers abstract are required.
Additional Information:
This position is required to work in the office of Kaslo Community Services. The counsellor may work outside the office, e.g., in community settings to further the goals of the position and is expected to take an active role in providing opportunities for support and education surrounding Survivors’ issues.

Job Summary:
From a Survivor led approach, to provide high quality ethical, therapeutic counselling to survivors of sexualized violence of all genders. As well as to recognize that each survivor is an individual with unique preferences and circumstances and that it is the survivors right and responsibility to make their own choices with regard to treatment and healing.
Services will be provided to Kaslo and area residents who are nineteen (19) years and older.
Services will be provided regardless of whether or not the survivor has chosen to report to the police.
• In some cases, survivors may request service from outside the service area and the counsellor may provide services in these cases with prior approval from the Executive Director.
The SAS Counsellor is an employee of Kaslo Community Services (KCS). The SAS Counsellor will work with the Executive Director – Counselling and Early Years, and other program staff to plan and deliver the program. All staff will adhere to policies developed by the KCS Board and guidelines developed by the Co-Executive Director.

- Will, as considered appropriate by the Service Provider and in agreement with the Survivor, make referrals to other local service providers, including transition houses; victim service programs; alcohol and drug programs; mental health services; Culturally specific programming/supports.
- With the Executive Director, evaluate the effectiveness of the Sexual Assault Services, resolves identified problems and moves towards defined objectives.
- Maintain accurate reports and records on survivors and provide monthly statistical information. Ensure that all required documentation is complete.
- Ensure confidentiality of all client-related and privileged agency information.
- Perform other related duties as required.
