Permanent Part-time Employment Opportunity

17 hours/week

As a Support and Outreach worker, you will provide person centered support and services to adults with developmental disabilities, as well as individuals who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder(FASD) and who also have significant difficulty doing things on their own.

Preferred qualifications and skills:

  • Experience working with adults living with diverse abilities and/or mental wellness challenges.
  • Work from a person-centred approach respecting diversity and self-determination
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Current first aid certificate (training provided if needed)
  • Non-Violent Communications Training, ASIST Training and Trauma Informed
    Practice Training an asset
  • Criminal Record Check and adherence to a confidentiality policy will be required.

Work Environment

  • Community and/or home-based support
  • Possess a valid BC Drivers Licence and reliable vehicle for client transportation
  • Applicants must be able to confirm they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or to provide proof of an exemption.

Wage: $27.01/hour

Community Outreach Support Worker for Community Living BC Clients

The Support and Outreach Worker provides person centered support and services to adults with developmental disabilities, as well as individuals who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and who also have significant difficulty doing things on their own.

Goals for Outreach and Support services are to:

  1.  Improve Emotional Well-Being: Individuals feel safe in their home and community. They have a positive
     sense of self and trust the people in their lives.
  2.  Build or Identify Interpersonal Relations:  Individuals have meaningful relationships with family and friends.
  3. Secure Material Well-Being: Individuals have the financial resources to do the things that are
    important to them.
  4. Support Personal Development: Individuals pursue their interests, have opportunities for personal growth and skill development, and have access to necessary information and support.
  5. Support Physical Well-Being:  Individuals are physically healthy and active. They have access to the
    health care they require.
  6. Promote Self-Determination: Individuals make decisions in their lives about things that matter to them.
  7. Promote Social Inclusion: Individuals participate in community life in roles they and society value.
  8. Promote Individual Rights:  Individuals have autonomy and their decisions are respected

Principles of Outreach and Support Assistance:

  1. Contribute to the overall health of the individual and stabilize the environment as much as possible
  2. To encourage the clients to be actively involved in the design of their own service and supports
  3. Provide confidentiality and safety in a supportive working relationship

Skills and Responsibilities:

Thoughtful care plans will play an important role in the provision of support and outreach skills. It is important that the Community Outreach Support Workers:

  1. possess good communication skills; Submit monthly reporting; complete critical incident report as necessary.
  2. are not goal-orientated to the exclusion of the Client’s comfort level;
  3. have knowledge of the signs and symptoms of Client’s overall wellbeing;
  4. will seek assistance and report in a timely manner if they are worried about the Client’s well-being;
  5. have a good working knowledge of the Client’s abilities and its effects on everyday functioning.
  6. Current first aid certificate (training provided if needed)
